Independent judgement when the decision matters.
Northridge Strategic Advisory helps leaders examine important decisions, strengthen organisational understanding and identify the gap between what leadership believes and what the available evidence can genuinely support.
When the consequences are significant, confidence is not enough
Leaders are frequently required to act before certainty is possible.
The question is not whether every uncertainty has been removed. It is whether the available understanding is sufficiently reliable—and proportionate to the significance, consequences and reversibility of the judgement being made.
Northridge provides independent challenge, structured examination and experienced judgement when:
• A major decision requires greater confidence
• A strategy, proposal or investment needs independent scrutiny
• Leadership assurance may not reflect operational reality
• Risk, responsibility or accountability is unclear
• An organisation is entering a period of change, growth or heightened exposure
• A Board, executive, founder or senior leader needs a trusted outside perspective
What Northridge contributes
Independent perspective
A view that is not constrained by organisational hierarchy, internal assumptions or the need to defend an established position.
Structured challenge
Careful examination of the evidence, reasoning and assurance supporting an important judgement.
Operational reality
Attention to the difference between how arrangements are believed to operate and how they function in practice.
Proportionate understanding
A clearer basis for deciding whether enough is genuinely understood before committing to action.
Ways to work
Decision Review
A focused, independent examination of an important decision before commitment. The review considers the evidence, assumptions, remaining uncertainty and consequences if the current understanding proves incomplete.
Strategic and Organisational Advisory
Independent advice for leaders navigating complexity, growth, change or organisational risk. Support may include testing strategic assumptions, strengthening governance arrangements and connecting formal assurance with operational reality.
Retained Independent Adviser
Ongoing access to a trusted external adviser who provides confidential challenge, perspective and judgement as issues develop. Designed for Chairs, executives, founders, investors and senior leaders who value an independent relationship without creating another layer of management.
Leadership Judgement Sessions
Facilitated sessions helping leaders examine how they use evidence, question assurance, recognise uncertainty and determine whether they understand enough before exercising consequential judgement. Sessions can be designed for Boards, executive teams, senior and middle managers, emerging leaders or mixed organisational groups.
Principal-led, independent and discreet
Northridge Strategic Advisory Ltd is an independent, principal-led advisory practice founded by Dr Simon Le Clerc MStJ.
Simon brings experience from Board, executive, operational and advisory roles across complex, regulated and safety-critical environments. His career has involved consequential decisions where evidence may be incomplete, time constrained and the human or organisational effects significant.
His perspective combines independent Board judgement with practical experience of leadership, governance, assurance, organisational resilience and operational reality.
Every Northridge engagement is led personally by Simon.
The thinking behind the work
When do you know you know enough?
Northridge’s work is informed by Simon’s continuing research and writing on consequential judgement and Governance Assurance.
At its centre is a deceptively simple question: when a consequential judgement must be made, how does a leader determine whether the confidence to act is justified by the quality of the available understanding?
The Assurance Gap: When Do You Know You Know Enough? examines the recurring distance between reported assurance and organisational reality—and what leaders can do to exercise better judgement when certainty is unavailable.
Governance Assurance is emerging from this work as an evidence-led discipline for examining whether confidence is justified, uncertainty is explicit and understanding is proportionate to the decision being made.
A confidential conversation
If you are facing an important judgement, questioning the assurance surrounding a decision or considering whether an independent perspective would help, the first step is a private conversation.
There is no standard sales process and no presumption that every enquiry should become an engagement.
